Sun & Moon owning only Zodiac sign each obviously looks unreasonable and mysterious!
Although it looks unreasonable from a mundane point of view, the Creator’s mystery is very difficult to understand at our level of consciousness. But I will help you to give insight into the deep meaning and it is the way how the Creator is disseminating a strong Spiritual message to the Universe.
This Universe is administered on the strict principle of the Doctrine of Karma – as you sow, so shall you reap. No one however high and mighty they maybe in this world can never escape or tamper or fool around the basic tents of the Doctrine of Karma.
Sun depicts Soul and Moon depicts Mind not just in Astrology but even from Spiritual perspectives as well. Sun represents the Universal Creative Energy which is sustains the entire Universe. This Universal Creative Energy is God or Parmathma or the Supreme Soul. What is keeping us live is a tiny particle of the same Universal Energy which is Atma an offshoot of Parmathma or Primal Soul or God. There cannot be two ways about it at all. Therefore, Sun is allotted only one Zodiac sign. This sign of Sun, Leo is the 5th sign of the Zodiac.
The number 5 or the 5th Bhava too signifies “the Past” as accepted in Astrology and thus, what we are today is the result of our own actions in the past life/lives.
Moon
Moon depicts Mind and Moon owns the 4th sign of the Zodiac, Cancer.
Moon is the fastest moving Planet covering one cycle around the Zodiac in about 28 days approximately.
Moon depicting Mind of human beings is moving at lightning speed, unstable, erratic and jumps from one subject or object to another, awake or asleep and it is ever turbulent. Moon or call it Mind is the root cause of all our actions – good and or bad, right through our life. Thus, it is creating the future automatically every passing second.

The dross created and accumulated by Mind from birth to the last breath is the burden on Soul which is ever Pristine. If the dross created by Mind is decimated and thrown off, the Atma or the Soul has the Supreme Divinity and nothing short of Parmathma.
Once we give up the Mind like in case of Saints and Mystics or in other words, Mind comes under control and gradually feels the presence of the Soul in us. Until then, we will not have any idea about Soul at all. The Pristine Soul becomes strong as it were once the Mind or Moon is given up.
Therefore, in the Mysterious Zodiac which is the Index of this Universe and our life, Moon owns the 12th sign from Sun thereby meaning the union with the Primal Soul or Parmathma is possible once we start controlling Mind and start giving up our desires, attraction and attachment in this world. Thus, the Saints and Mystics have said that this world is an illusion, transitory and getting attached to this world makes us come back, again and again, like a handcuffed prisoner.
Therefore, the Spiritual message that is reverberating in the zodiac is always pointed towards emancipation.
